WASHINGTON, DC — A veteran D.C. police officer has been arrested on assault charges stemming from incidents that happened in January and February.

Police arrested 51-year-old Robert A. Anderson -- who has been with the department since 1990 and was assigned to the Fifth District -- on five counts of simple assault.

Police say Anderson touched a woman without her consent on Jan. 14 at the Fifth District station. He touched another woman without her consent on Feb. 2 at the Fourth District station, and then again touched multiple people at that station on Feb. 5, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department. Police added that in the last incident, he threatened another individual.

The victims were co-workers, and Anderson was on duty at the time, the statement reads.

“The Metropolitan Police Department does not condone any criminal or immoral conduct by an employee,” said Chief of Police Peter Newsham. “Officer Anderson’s actions are disgraceful and not a representation of the men and women of this agency.”
