YORKVILLE, IL — An inmate in Kendall County Jail is facing additional charges after he was caught with a cellphone, according to police. Police say Frederick Spencer, 39, of the 300 block of South Front Street, took a phone from a contractor who was working in the jail in May. Spencer, who is incarcerated on unrelated charges, was also recently charged with multiple burglaries in and around Aurora.

Investigators say they determined that Spencer took the phone from the contractor on May 8 and returned it later that day, unbeknownst to the contractor. Police say it does not appear that Spencer's use of the phone posed any additional risk to the jail.

Spencer was charged with possession of contraband in a penal institution on Aug. 12. That same day, he was charged with multiple counts of residential burglary that stretch back to 2018.
