Show Off Your Pup At 2nd Annual Aurora Pooch Parade

Dog lovers can let their pups strut their stuff and compete for prizes at the Annual Pooch Parade.

AURORA, IL — There are few things people love more than dogs. Ice cream, maybe, but you can't watch an ice cream cone proudly stroll through Phillips Park the way dozens of dogs will on Sept. 8 for the 2nd Annual Aurora Pooch Parade.

The grand marshal for the 2019 parade is a 100-pound Italian Mastiff named Kovu. Kovu made waves during the inaugural Aurora Pooch Parade by winning both the Crowd Favorite and Best Costume Awards.

Award winners will be chosen by a panel of expert guest judges that includes Little Miss Aurora Alaria Selmon and Little Mr. Aurora Benjamin Mendoza. Awards that will be up for grabs during the Pooch Parade include:

The Aurora Pooch Parade will transform the Phillips Park Sunken Garden Area into a veritable pet oasis. Puppy pools, food trucks, and pet supply vendors will be on hand throughout the celebration to keep those in attendance refreshed.

If you don't have a dog, you can come to watch and to check out the adoptable pooches from Aurora Animal Care and Control. You can also bring items to donate to the shelter. The dogs need:

  • Grain-free canned foods and treats
  • Small beds and fleece blankets
  • Brushes, combs, and shampoo
  • Squeaky toys

Dog owners have until Sept. 6 to register their four-legged friends for the Aurora Pooch Parade.
