Deerfield's Cody Goodman Commits to the University of Illinois

Deerfield High School senior Cody Goodman announced his intention to wrestle at the University of Illinois

DEERFIELD - On Thursday, Deerfield High School senior Cody Goodman ended his recruiting search, announcing his intention to wrestle at the University of Illinois.

In a Facebook post Goodman wrote,"I’m excited to announce that I am continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Illinois. Thank you to all my coaches and family who have gotten me to where I am today."

This comes after a long recruiting search. His other top choices were Columbia University and the University of Iowa. He will be joining former Deerfield teammates Jake Reicin and Kenny Kerstein in Champaign.

Deerfield head coach Marc Pechter said he is, "proud of Cody and his work ethic," adding, "He deserves all his accomplishments as he is a hard worker and great team member."

Despite this achievement, Goodman, Pechter, and the entire wrestling program is excited for another successful season. "Deerfield wrestling is trying to win our 12 consecutive CSL North conference title. We have not lost a Conference dual meet in over 10 years," said coach Pechter. "We are also looking forward to more state placers and team accomplishments under the team leadership of TJ Mock, Rory Perlow, and Cody."

Last season, Goodman posted a 50-5 record, placing third place in his second IHSA state competition. He is currently the top rated wrestler in the state of Illinois at his weight class.

When asked about the year ahead, Goodman's eyes were on the same prize. "I’m ready for my state title."
