Bark Park, Courts Reopening; Playgrounds, Splash Pad Still Closed

Open and active green space, tennis courts and the Bark Park are among some of the amenities which have reopened.

FRANKFORT, IL — As more businesses and services begin to reopen in phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan, the Frankfort Park District has also provided an update on its operations and amenties.

In a message from Executive Director Gina Hassett, Hassett said the park district will now start to reopen facilities and start programs in line with phase 3. Program sizes have been reduced to ensure the maximum group size is 10 people.

  • Park district parks reopened Friday for the use of open and active green space.
  • Youth sports activities are limited to drills, practices and lessons that do not involve contact and can allow for 6 feet of social distancing.
  • Tennis courts, basketball rims, and volleyball nets will be available in early June for use.
  • Bark Park will reopen.

  • Playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment at Frankfort Park District parks remain closed.
  • Bathrooms and water fountains in the park remain closed, but will open in the coming weeks.
  • Splash pad at Commissioners Park is still closed and will reopen if permitted under health guidance.
  • Rental of rooms or picnic areas is not accepted currently.

Hassett said additional facilities will open over the next few weeks. Summer program registration will begin June 1 and summer programs will start the week of June 8.
