Contestants Wanted For Frankfort Rib Cook-Off

The cook-off will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Breidert Green in downtown Frankfort.

FRANKFORT, IL — The village of Frankfort will once again be working with the Frankfort Area Jaycees and the Frankfort Lions Club for the 11th annual Frankfort Amateur Rib Cook-Off. The event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Breidert Green in downtown Frankfort.

The village said the contestants will prepare and cook the baby back ribs on-site. Contestants will be allowed to set up their designated area from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. on the day of the event. Each contestant will receive 15 slabs of ribs from the Jaycees on the day of the event to begin their preparation. All food is cooked on-site. The fee to enter the competition is $100 and includes the price of the meat. The deadline to enter is July 26.

Judging for first, second and third prize will begin at noon and will be announced at 2 p.m., the village said. A prize for “crowd pleaser” will also be awarded.

The village said the public is welcome to join the contestants during the cook-off, and can begin tasting at 12:30 p.m. (ticket sales open at noon). Admission is free, with rib tasting tickets sold as follows: 4 tickets for $5; 8 tickets for $10; and 12 tickets for $15.

Concessions will be sold by members of the Jaycees and the Frankfort Lions Club. All food purchases benefit the Frankfort Area Jaycees and beverage purchases benefit the Frankfort Lions Club.

“The Village is very pleased to work with the Jaycees and the Lions Club on this event for our community. We invite all of our amateur chefs to participate and show off their prize winning rib recipes. I urge everyone to mark their calendars now so they can enjoy this event,” Mayor Jim Holland said
