Frankfort Approves Emergency Well Construction

There is not an exact cost of the project yet, but the village expects the project to exceed $400,000.

FRANKFORT, IL — After a well failure in Frankfort, the village board approved an emergency construction project for a new well at its July 6 meeting. The utility department made a request for emergency funds after well 9 failed.

Trustee Adam Borelli, who also chairs the operations committee, said at the meeting that staff has made temporary adjustments to the system so it can keep operating efficiently.

Layne Christensen Company is the sole provider of well equipment in Frankfort.

Borelli said the new well will be constructed with Layne Christenson on village property in Frankfort Square near the existing location of well 9.

In 2017, Layne Christenson Company did emergency construction of well 15 for a cost of $378,994. Borelli said there is not an exact cost of the project yet, but staff expects the project to exceed $400,000.

Village Administrator Rob Piscia said the well "provides redundancy in our system in the east basin which is the Frankfort Square, Preston area."

"It's a high-producing well, and again, it's necessary to maintain pressure over the course of the entire system," Piscia said.
