Frankfort Honors Hickory Creek Wrestling State Champion

Lamonto won the Class AA IESA Wrestling Championship for the 145-pound class at the meet on March 8-9.

FRANKFORT, IL — Hickory Creek Middle School eighth grader Zach Lamonto was honored at the village of Frankfort board meeting on April 15. Lamonto won the Class AA IESA Wrestling Championship for the 145-pound class at the meet on March 8-9.

"The good people of the Frankfort community recognize Hickory Creek's Zach Lamonto for his outstanding achievement in winning the 2019 IESA 145-pound state wrestling championship," Mayor Jim Holland read in a proclamation.

According to the proclamation, Lamonto's state tournament record was 4-0. He defeated his first opponent by fall, second opponent with a 2-0 decision, and a third opponent with a 4-2 decision. Lamonto defeated a wrestler from Homer Glen in the final round with a 5-1 decision.

Homer Glen went on to place first in the team standings. Hickory Creek also placed 10th in the team standings at the IESA state finals.

This is the fifth year of the wrestling program at Hickory Creek. Lamonto is the second wrestler in school history to win the state title.
