Jewelry, Cash Stolen During Ruse Burglary: Police Reports

Before the burglary, the man told the elderly homeowner he worked for the water department.

FRANKFORT, IL — A ruse burglary was reported in late January in Frankfort, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. The burglary happened on Jan. 31 in the 20000 block of South Humboldt Drive.

According to police reports, a man knocked on the front door and told the elderly homeowner he worked for the water department. The man was wearing a yellow work vest and black jacket and asked to check the plumbing inside.

Reports state the homeowner went into the basement with the man as he knocked on some pipes and ran the water. Later that evening, the homeowner found that five gold necklaces, three rings, two gold bracelets and cash was missing from a dresser.

According to reports, the homeowner believes the robbery took place by a second subject while she was in the basement with the man.
