FRANKFORT, IL — At the final home game of the regular season Friday, the Lincoln-Way East football program will honor military veterans and current members of the US Armed Forces with a Salute the Troops night. The district said each member of the varsity team will carry an American Flag onto the field as a sign of support for veterans and those currently serving.

The football team has been supporting the military all season and each week they have selected a “Flag Carrier” to carry the flag into the stadium with the team, the district said. The player carrying the flag each week honored a family member or friend that is currently serving or has served in the Armed Forces.

The actual flag the players have carried was brought to the team by the Cap family. Bruno Cap is a senior linebacker on the varsity team, and his brother, Sean, is a specialist in the US Army and former Lincoln-Way North football player. According to the district, Sean carried this very flag with him on his tour of duty in Kuwait and sent it home in hopes it will bring the Lincoln-Way East Football program the same steadfast determination and strength it gave him on his tour of duty.

The team also is selling T-shirts during school and at Friday’s game, while supplies last, the district said. The proceeds will be donated to the Caring Patriots organization, who will be providing 1,000 food baskets to veterans and their families this Thanksgiving.
