Lincoln-Way Offers Welding Basics Class For Adults

FRANKFORT, IL — Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 will offer two adult welding sessions at Lincoln-Way East, 201 Colorado Ave., in Frankfort. Whether you are interested in creating your own artsy designs, doing repairs or thinking of a career in welding, you can take this class.

The district said the class is open to anyone who is interested in exploring the basics of shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, plasma arc cutting, oxy-fuel torch cutting, oxy-fuel gas welding, brazing and soldering.

The district said the first session will be held on the following Tuesdays: Nov. 12, 19, Dec. 3, 10, and 17, 2019. The second session will be held on the following Thursdays: Jan. 9, 16, 23, 30, and Feb. 6, 2020. Classes will run from 6 – 9 p.m.

The cost is $150 for the course and includes a $25 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. The district said each session has 10 available spots, and you must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate to participate. Tools, materials and protective gear will be provided.

Participants must wear leather shoes, long sleeves, long pants and bring their own safety glasses each week. No prior welding experience is necessary, and the district said welding assignments and projects will be created in class.

The course is taught by Lincoln-Way’s Daymon Gast. He brings his more than 20 years of welding experience with him. He is endorsed by the American Welding Society and is a Certified Welding Inspector, Certified Welding Educator and a Certified Welder.
