FRANKFORT, IL — A Frankfort man was held at gunpoint Tuesday and told to hand over any money he had while walking on a trail in Frankfort Township, the Will County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies were called to the scene at 4 p.m. April 9 near the intersection of Arran Drive and Thistle Lane for the incident, which had happened about 10 minutes earlier.

According to the sheriff's office, a 21-year-old Frankfort resident was walking on the trail around 3:50 p.m. when an unknown man approached him from behind and politely asked him for money. When the victim told him no, the other man got angry and pulled out a black pistol and placed it against the victim's forehead.

The man told the victim he was "going to blow his brains out," the sheriff's office said. The victim was able to slap the pistol away from the offender, who dropped it, and the two began to physically struggle, according to police.

At that point, another unknown man approached in an attempt to break the two apart, the sheriff's office said. The offender then fled on foot, and the second man ran to a teal two-door sedan and fled the scene, heading south on Arran Drive. The car had no rear registration plates.

Deputies were called to the scene and soon discovered that the pistol was a BB gun. The gun was turned over to police, the sheriff's office said.

The offender was described as a man between 18 and 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He had tanned skin, brown hair and was wearing brown gloves. The second man, who broke the victim and the offender apart, was described as a white man, 20 years old with blonde hair, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim was not injured and nothing was stolen.

Deputies searched the area but didn't find the offender, the sheriff's office said. Residents are reminded to always be aware of surroundings when walking or spending time outdoors.
