Tinley Man Accused Of Speeding, Impersonating Cop

A Tinley Park resident told Frankfort police he was a fellow officer, though he wasn't. Now he's facing felony charges from the real police.

FRANKFORT, IL — A Tinley Park man couldn’t keep it under the limit on Lincoln Highway and then told Frankfort cops a thin blue lie, according to police. Andrew J. Neufeld, 25, of the 19300 block of Lisadell Drive, had been stopped for going 20 mph over the posted speed limit, when police say he told officers he was a fellow police officer in nearby Romeoville. Police said officers suspected something was amiss when they noticed Neufeld’s demeanor during the stop.

“While the officer was speaking to Mr. Neufield, he noticed he was sweating a lot and stuttering in his responses,” said Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan.

To further his claim that he was a fellow officer, Neufeld showed officers a what he said was a bulletproof vest in the rear seat of his vehicle. The officers noted the vest didn’t have any ballistic stopping material in it, but that it was embroidered with "A.Neufeld" and a silver Romeoville police badge. Keegan added that Neufeld was unable to provide any sort of police identification to officers during the stop, and officers confirmed with the Romeoville Police Department Neufeld was not employed there.

Neufeld was arrested and charged with impersonating a peace officer and obstruction of justice, both felonies, and cited for driving 15-20 mph over limit and operation of a vehicle with expired tags.
