CHICAGO — Police officers will be out in full force tonight looking for drunk drivers in Chicago's 6th District on the South Side. The 6th District covers roughly the area between Western Avenue and Cottage Grove Avenue, 79th Street and 87th Street, according to a community map posted on the Chicago Police Department website. Much of the Auburn Gresham and Chatham neighborhoods are covered in this area.

Chicago police refer to the drunk driving crackdown as a "DUI Saturation Patrol," in which officers saturate a pre-designated area and monitor traffic for signs of impaired driving. The program has been in place for several years and selects districts at random on various weekends.

Police will be equipped with speed detection devices to detect speeders and will be looking out for safety belt violations as well during the crackdown, which is planned from 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 to 3 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24.
