ANNAPOLIS, MD -- The music industry was stunned to learn that the man shot and killed Friday night on Forest Drive near Newtowne Drive in Annapolis was none other than Maryland rapper Tre Da Kid. The 32-year-old, whose real name is Edward Montre Seay, was believed to be the victim of a one-car collision at 9:19 p.m. June 7 until police officers discovered he had been shot several times, Patch reported.

Police were investigating calls about shots fired when they found Seay's vehicle. He gained national attention in 2016 after winning Verizon's #Freestyle50 rap contest, CNN reported. Seay won $10,000 and secured a deal with hip-hop label 300 Entertainment. The single from his victory was called "Run It," and was released in 2017. Seay began rapping at age 6 and also was a finalist in a BET freestyle competition in 2011.

Annapolis civil rights activist and politician Carl Snowden stated on his Facebook page that he would see to it that those responsible for the murder of Seay "will be brought to justice."

responsible for his murder," Snowden stated.

Seay's murder falls on the same weekend as the "Wear Orange 2019" campaign held nationwide that calls for an end to gun violence.
