Annapolis Residents Must Abide By New Parking Permit Rules

A new city ordinance amends residency requirements, quantity of permits allowed to be purchased and the means of purchasing permits.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – While the city’s online purchasing portal for parking permits undergoes upgrades this summer in order to comply with a new city ordinance, residents must purchase temporary parking permits in person weekdays at the Annapolis parking office beginning Friday, May 31, or online weekdays. The parking office is located at 60 West St., Suite 106.

However, the city’s online purchasing portal at www.annapolisparking.com will be shut down every weekend beginning Fridays at noon until 8 a.m. Mondays while the site is upgraded this summer.

A city ordinance approved by the city council April 29 amended the residency requirements, quantity of permits allowed to be purchased and other details for obtaining temporary parking permits effective July 1, 2019.

In order to purchase a temporary parking permit, residents must have a current Maryland vehicle registration and a current Maryland driver’s license featuring an address within the special parking district. Residents also much present proof of ownership of a property in a special parking district and the property must be designated as the owner’s principal with the Maryland State Department of Taxation.

Furthermore, a resident wishing to purchasing a parking permit must be lessee of residential property within the special parking district licensed as a rental unit or be on active military status and reside in the special parking district.

Residents may purchase up to 10 permits per month per residence and they expire at the end of the month in which they were issued. Each residence also may possess up to 25 temporary permits per fiscal year to be used whenever; they expire at the end of the fiscal year in which they were issued.

The ordinance also created a new category called non-resident parking permits for property owners whose property is located within a special parking district but who do not meet the new residency criteria. Use of this permit will be limited to the period of time the owner occupies the residence. Applicants shall submit proof of property ownership and a driver’s license and vehicle registration in the property owner’s name or a vehicle rental contract in the property owner’s name, and indicate the period of occupancy.
