ANNAPOLIS, MD — After a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, the new $4 million pool at Truxton Park is set to open on Saturday. The city secured the funding for the Kenneth R. Dunn municipal pool through its sale of the Eisenhower Golf Course in 2016.

The aquatics center has a six-lane, 25-yard lap pool; a leisure pool with a beachy entrance; two curly waterslides; and a splash pad with water-spraying attractions. The pool's bath house has changing rooms, showers, restrooms, and gender-neutral and family facilities. A snack bar and shaded lounge area rounds out the pool's offerings.

“I am so excited that we were able to bring this new facility online for residents,” Mayor Gavin Buckley said in a press release. “Getting it across the finish line during a pandemic is a feat that shows the hard work and dedication of City of Annapolis employees. Recreation and Parks and Department of Public Works staff should be very proud of the work they have done. Residents are going to love this new pool!”

Builders also constructed a storm water remediation system on site. The property did not previously have a way to disperse runoff water, though it borders Spa Creek. Volunteers and the city's Public Work Department also planted 60,000 native trees and shrubs near the pool.

The facility will operate at half capacity for the near future, in accordance with coronavirus regulations. Staff will give swimmers a colored wrist band for one of the pool's three areas. Patrons must stay in that location, wear a mask in common areas and practice social distancing when possible.
