ANNAPOLIS, MD — Middle schoolers from across the community will be paired with police officers in the kitchen for a fun and educational cooking class at Whole Foods. Kids will learn how to fix a healthy entree and dessert with the assistance of an Annapolis officer, then be provided with the means to make it again for their families at home.

The special event will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at 4 p.m. at the Whole Foods located in the Annapolis Towne Center. The kids will receive aprons, reusable shopping bags, knife skills and kitchen safety packets. Brian Finan with the Annapolis Police Foundation told Patch that this is the first Cooking with a Cop class to be held and the foundation hopes to host more in the future.

"The link between officers and kids is a great community benefit. The foundation was created to raise funds to assist the great work of the department's community outreach folks," he said.

Other fun special events the foundation has hosted include the Canine Cruise and Shop With A Cop.

"The Annapolis Police Department's community outreach program holds more than 800 events in the community each year. In March 2019, the police department led a scholarship drive fundraiser along with the foundation that raised $20,000 for Annapolis high school seniors who are headed off to college. We hope to organize a similar event for March 2020," Finan told Patch.
