Accused Backpack Robber Is Behind Bars: Annapolis Police

An Annapolis woman has been arrested and charged with hitting a man with a pole and stealing his backpack, say city police.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Annapolis police arrested a local woman Tuesday on charges that she hit a pedestrian in the face last week with a metal pole and stole his backpack. Tymeika Lewis, 29, of Annapolis has been charged with theft, armed robbery, robbery, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, according to a police report.

The robbery took place at about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the 1100 block of Bay Ridge Avenue, the police said. An unidentified man told the police that as he was walking in the area, a woman hit him in the face with a metal pole.

As he fell to the ground, the robber grabbed his backpack and fled. The victim was treated at an area hospital for injuries to his face.

The robbery victim and Lewis knew each other prior to the robbery, the police said.

Lewis was being held Tuesday at the Jennifer Road Detention Center prior to her initial hearing before a commissioner in the Annapolis District Court, the police report stated.
