Black Heritage Celebration To Follow MLK Day Parade In Annapolis

From The City of Annapolis: The Mayor’s Office of the City of Annapolis presents “Diaspora: A Black Heritage Celebration,” on April 13th from 2 to 6 p.m. at Susan Campbell Park. This African American cultural entertainment event will commence after the 2019 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade.

The MLK Parade will begin at 12 p.m. on West Street at Amos Garrett Blvd. The parade will continue down Main Street to City Dock and then to Susan Campbell Park where the Diaspora event will take place.

This event is in partnership with The MLK Parade Committee, Annapolis Recreation & Parks and the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA).

This free event will feature African American art, artifacts, food, music and storytelling to highlight significant contributions to American history and culture.

Throughout the day, elected officials will be on site to participate in the festivities, including Mayor of Annapolis Gavin Buckley and members of the Annapolis City Council. For youth, there will be plenty of interactive activities. For people of all ages, performances will include students from Anne Arundel County Public Schools as well as professional dancers and artisans, and choirs and praise dancers from local churches.

Businesses, faith-based organizations, community groups and residents are invited to participate.
