Del Monte Recalls Canned Corn In MD Over Contamination

Maryland shoppers should check their pantry for a recalled line of Del Monte canned corn, the Food and Drug Administration says.

MARYLAND — Del Monte Foods on Dec. 11 said it is recalling a type of its canned corn sold in Maryland and 24 other states because of the risk of contamination. The company said that 64,242 cases of fiesta corn seasoned with red and green peppers are subject to recall. Changes in the commercial sterilization process could result in contamination and life-threatening illness if the product is consumed.

To date there have been no reports of illness associated with the recalled shipments of canned corn, Del Monte Foods said in a news release. No other production codes or products are affected by this recall.

The products in the recall are 15.25-ounce (432g) cans with the following UPC number printed on the label: 24000 02770, the Food and Drug Administration says.. The product will also have one of the following “Best if Used By” dates stamped on the bottom of the can:

The canned was distributed to multiple distributors and retail locations in 25 states and 12 international locations. States where the affected corn was shipped to are: Alaska, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

If consumers have any of the recalled corn, they should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or exchange. Consumers with questions may call Del Monte toll-free at 1-800-779-7035 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET on weekdays or by logging onto www.delmontefoods.com.
