MLK Jr. Parade, Black Heritage Celebration Set For April 13

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The rainy weather forecast means “Diaspora: A Black Heritage Celebration,” scheduled for Saturday, April 13, from 2 to 6 p.m. has been moved from Susan Campbell Park to the Stanton Center, 92 West Washington Street in Annapolis, according to city officials. This African American cultural entertainment event will begin after the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade.

The MLK Parade will begin at noon Saturday on West Street at Amos Garrett Boulevard. The parade will continue down Main Street to City Dock.

This event, sponsored by the Mayor’s office, is in partnership with The MLK Parade Committee, Annapolis Recreation & Parks and the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis.

Diaspora is a free event that will feature African American art, artifacts, food, music and storytelling to highlight significant contributions to American history and culture.

Throughout the day, elected officials will be on site to participate in the festivities, including Mayor Gavin Buckley and members of the Annapolis City Council. For youth, there will be plenty of interactive activities. For people of all ages, performances will include students from Anne Arundel County Public Schools as well as professional dancers and artisans, and choirs and praise dancers from local churches.
