New Annapolis Fire Chief To Be Sworn In Aug. 26

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The new fire chief, Doug Remaley, will be sworn in during a special ceremony Monday, Aug. 26, at 3 p.m. at City Council Chambers. Once Remaley is sworn in by Mayor Gavin Buckley, the new fire chief with authorize the deputy fire chief Carroll Spriggs to second in command of the Annapolis Fire Department.

Remaley will be the sixth career chief of the Annapolis Fire Department. He is a lifelong Annapolitan and has spent his career with Annapolis Fire, first as a volunteer, then working his way up the ranks to deputy chief under chief David Stokes.

The Annapolis Fire Department, which dates to the 1800s, operates three stations (Eastport, Forest Drive and Taylor Avenue) and shares the Anne Arundel County Annapolis Neck fire station. The Fire Department also operates a 36-foot fire boat, a hazardous materials unit, a bomb squad and a fire and explosive investigations unit. There are currently 142 members of the department.
