What's Open, Closed For Memorial Day In Anne Arundel County

Anne Arundel County parks will be open Memorial Day, but park restrooms and playgrounds remain closed until further notice.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and landfills will be closed in observance of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. There will be no trash, recycling or yard trim pick-up on Memorial Day. The county’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect.

The 2020 Memorial Day Parade in Annapolis has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and Gov. Larry Hogan's statewide restriction on large public gatherings. The annual wreath-laying ceremony at Susan Campbell Park has been canceled, too.

While county parks will be open, park restrooms, playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed until further notice. All artificial turf and Bermuda fields are closed. North County and South County Recreation Centers will be closed until further notice. Regional Parks (Quiet Waters, Downs, Fort Smallwood, Kinder Farm, Lake Waterford, B&A Trail and Jug Bay) will remain open for exercise activities only, such as jogging, walking, biking, hiking. No picnics or gathering will be permitted.

Some Maryland state parks are open while others remain close:

  • Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park: Closed
  • Portions of the Houck Area of Cunningham Falls State Park: Closed
  • Camping: Camping is available at certain state parks. Campgrounds around the state are being opened in a multi-phase process, involving the preparation of facilities for visitors, opening restrooms and bathhouses, and bringing seasonal staff online to manage the safety and well-being of visitors.   • Playgrounds at some state parks have been reopened, although parents are encouraged to talk to their children about to how to properly social distance while playing.

County and city operations will resume on Tuesday at regular business hours; however, government buildings remain closed to the public at this time due to the coronavirus pandemic. Libraries, theaters and public pools remain closed at this time, too.
