Traffic Alert Issued For Funeral Of Former Mayor D'Alesandro III

There will be extra traffic along North Calvert Street Tuesday and Wednesday due to the funeral for Baltimore's former mayor.

BALTIMORE, MD — Transportation officials warn drivers in Baltimore to prepare for extra traffic through Wednesday. Heavy traffic is expected on North Calvert Street Tuesday night and early Wednesday afternoon due to the funeral arrangements for former Baltimore Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro III.

D'Alesandro III, who led Baltimore for one term from 1967 to 1971, died Sunday. He was 90.

The 700 block of North Calvert Street and surrounding roads will likely be congested, according to the Baltimore City Department of Transportation.

Funeral Arrangements

The public viewing is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. Ignatius Church at 740 North Calvert Street.

A second public viewing will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

D'Alesandro's sister, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and his son, Thomas D'Alesandro IV, will deliver his eulogy, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The funeral procession will be Wednesday from North Calvert Street to Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens at 200 East Padonia Road in Lutherville-Timonium.

There will be delays on northbound Calvert Street from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. for the procession, officials advised.
