Columbia Crime: Robbery, Cutting, Loaded Gun

Several assaults, a jewelry robbery, backpack theft and more crimes were reported in Columbia recently.

COLUMBIA, MD — Here are recent crime reports from the Howard County Police Department. All information is provided by police. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

A laptop and TV were stolen from a residence in the 5300 block of Smooth Meadow Way where a break-in occurred through rear glass slider. The burglary happened between April 5 and 22.

A man was hospitalized after being assaulted at his home in the 7000 block of Gentle Shade Road. Multiple individuals, who police said may have been acquaintances of another resident, forced their way into his home and attacked him. The suspects included 20 to 25-year-old men and 2o to 50-year-old women. It was unclear whether anything was taken in the incident, which occurred at 7:39 p.m. on April 20.

A pizza delivery man was robbed at knifepoint in the 6200 block of Bright Plume. He was making a delivery when the suspect — described as a man of unknown race who was 5-feet-10-inches tall, 170 pounds and wearing black clothing — showed he had a knife and demanded cash. The victim gave him money, and the suspect took off. The armed robbery happened at 12:23 a.m. on April 18.

A Columbia man was charged after authorities conducted a traffic stop and found a loaded handgun in his vehicle. Officers made the stop in the 10300 block of Little Patuxent Parkway at 10:36 p.m. on April 18. Police arrested the 24-year-old from the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road and charged him with six offenses: handgun in the vehicle, loaded handgun in the vehicle, handed on person, loaded handgun on person, altering a firearm ID number and possession of more than 10 grams of marijuana. He was released on April 19 after posting $15,000 bond.

A Laurel man was charged with assault in connection with a cutting in Columbia. Police found a man with a laceration when they were called to a fight in the 7500 block of Monarch Mills Way at 2:28 a.m. on April 16. The victim was hospitalized. A 19-year-old from Woodsong Court in Laurel was arrested on April 17 and charged with first and second-degree assault as well as reckless endangerment. He posted $10,000 bond and was released on April 18.

A Columbia man was charged in connection with a robbery in the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway. In the robbery, police allege two men assaulted another man and stole jewelry. The robbery occurred at 1:15 a.m. on April 15. Police arrested a 20-year-old Columbia man from Quiet Hours and charged him with robbery; second-degree assault; theft from $100 to $1,500; and disorderly conduct. He was released after posting $5,000 bond on April 17. The second suspect was not located.

A teen assaulted a boy and stole his backpack and shoes in the 8600 block of Cobblefield Drive around 3:10 p.m. on April 15. No serious injuries occurred.

A spare tire was stolen from the 8900 block of Stanford Boulevard overnight between April 21 and 22.

A 2019 white Nissan Versa was stolen from the 10300 block of Daystar Court between April 20 and 22. It has Maryland tags "1DP0575."

Various items were stolen from a vehicle on Foreland Garth at Tamar Drive overnight from April 20 to 21.

Tires were stolen from the 5400 block of Twin Knolls Road overnight from April 13 to 14.

A 2018 Mazda 3 was stolen from the 4800 block of High Hawk Court. The theft was reported at 9:29 p.m. on April 13. The car has Maryland tags 7DR8325.
