Dense Fog Advisory Extended In 2 Counties Plus Baltimore City

Drivers should allow extra distance between their vehicles and others and use headlights during Friday's dense fog advisory.

The National Weather Service has extended the dense fog advisory in the Baltimore metropolitan area. The advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, for Harford and Baltimore counties as well as Baltimore City.

Visibility is expected to be one-quarter mile or less at times due to fog during the advisory period.

During a dense fog advisory, drivers should use their headlights, slow down and increase the distance between their vehicles and others, according to the advisory.

These areas are under the dense fog advisory until 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14:

  • Baltimore City
  • Northern Baltimore County
  • Southern Baltimore County
  • Northwest Harford County
  • Southeast Harford County

Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Baltimore, Jarrettsville and Aberdeen were mentioned specifically as areas that may see dense fog.

Here is a look at some of those areas after 11:30 a.m.:

An earlier advisory expired at 11 a.m. in other parts of the region after prompting a special statement from weather officials.

"Patchy dense fog has developed in northern and central Maryland," the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement Friday morning. "The densest fog is along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay north of Annapolis, but localized dense fog has also developed further inland in northern Maryland."

Rapid drops in visibility are possible, and drivers should be extra careful Friday morning, weather officials said, noting visibility was expected to improve by noon.

The dense fog advisory was in effect until 11 a.m. for Anne Arundel, Calvert, Carroll, Howard and Montgomery counties. The weather service noted the following areas specifically that may be impacted: Eldersburg, Westminster, Reisterstown, Cockeysville, Baltimore, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, South Gate, Severna Park, Arnold, Odenton, Chesapeake Beach, Huntingtown, Dunkirk, North Beach, Lusby, Prince Frederick, Lisbon, Columbia, Ellicott City, Jarrettsville and Aberdeen.
