SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery County residents earning $56,000 or less a year can receive free tax preparation and filing services through the Community Action Agency's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, according to government officials.

The IRS-sponsored program is designed to help low and moderate income taxpayers, those with disabilities, seniors, and people with limited English proficiency file taxes and receive refunds.

"Free tax help assures that County residents most in need of high-quality tax preparation have that access and can fully utilize their refunds to pay for critical family needs," Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said.
