SALEM, MA — The city is looking for a new company to offer a bike sharing program in Salem after Zagster said it will cease operations when its contract expires at the end of the month.

In a Facebook post, Ward 5 City Councilor Josh Turiel said the company plans to remove all of its equipment from Salem within the next two weeks. "In normal times, bike sharing has worked pretty well here in Salem and hopefully a new program vendor will find success as conditions improve," Turiel said.

This would have been the third year Zagster offered a bike-sharing program in Salem. Last November, the program was expanded to year-round. Salem has experimented with other green transportation initiatives, including temporary bikelines and an electronic scooter program, which have gotten mixed reviews.
