5 Arrests After 'Out-Of-Control' Salem Party

Police described the confrontation on Canal Street in Salem over the weekend as "pure chaos."

SALEM, MA — Police say their efforts to break up a house party at 127 Canal St. early Sunday morning during a power outage turned into "pure chaos" as the crowd ignored officers' orders to leave and chanted "(expletive) the police." Five people were arrested. Each pleaded not guilty in Salem District Court Monday to charges stemming from the incident. One Salem police officer was kicked and spat on, while another was punched in the face, according to The Salem News, which first reported this story.

Brayan Angomas, 20, of Lynn, was charged with three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after he tried to take a police officer's baton and then broke free from the officer's grasp when his shirt ripped. Alexus Parker, 20, who lives at the residence where the party was held, was charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, after spitting on and kicking an officer during her arrest.

Police said the triple-decker apartment house has been an "issue" for the department since at least 2014. The other people arrested were:

  • A 21-year-old Lynn man, who was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
  • Leandro Diaz, 22, of 28 Hancock Street in Salem, who was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
  • Derian Angomas, 23, of Lynn, who was also charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
