North Shore Mayors Backing Kennedy

In the past week, Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll and Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt have voiced support for Joe Kennedy in his Senate race.

Kennedy "was caring and funny and sincere and committed to doing more to meet our most pressing needs," Mayor Kim Driscoll said of the U.S. Rep's weekend visit to Salem.

SALEM, MA — Rep. Joe Kennedy III has picked up two key endorsements on the North Shore as he looks to challenge Sen. Ed Markey in next year's Democratic primary. The race is already shaping up to be one of the most closely-watched —and expensive — in next year's election cycle. Over the weekend, Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll posted a photo of her with Kennedy and Salem At-Large City Councilor Domingo Dominguez.

"Glad he's in this race - I'm with Joe!" Driscoll wrote.

Driscoll's public show of support comes less than a week after Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt formally endorsed Kennedy in the race.

"He has demonstrated his willingness to show up whenever and wherever he is needed," Bettencourt said in a statement. "With so many feeling frustrated and disparaged by our government, that level of commitment goes a long way."
