SALEM, MA — A Salem woman pleaded guilty to four counts of animal cruelty in Ipswich District Court Monday. The charges against Corryn Rivera, 24, of Salem, stemmed from accusations that she mistreated horses at a stable in South Hamilton. Rivera was sentenced to 18 months in prison but all but the six days she had already served was suspended for the three years she will be on probation.

According to the Salem News, which first reported this story, an attorney for Rivera said she was "essentially homeless" and had run out of money to care for the horses when the MSPCA was tipped off about their mistreatment in October 2018.
