Scammers Using Salem Police Phone Number
Salem police have received several reports of people receiving phone calls that appear to be coming from the police station.
SALEM, MA — Salem police are warning residents not to give money or personal information to people calling from what appears to be the Salem police phone exchange. The department has received several reports from residents receiving such calls in recent days. Scammers can use computer programs to make it appear as if the calls are coming from a specific phone number.
The callers, police said, are asking for donations on behalf of the police department. Anyone who lost money or gave personal information to the callers should contact Salem police.
