Stoughton Special Olympian Bowls With NE Revolution Players

Shawn Barton and his teammates got together for the fifth annual "Bowl for a Goal" event to support Special Olympics Massachusetts.

STOUGHTON, MA — A Special Olympics Athlete from Stoughton spent a night bowling and hanging out with the New England Revolution soccer team. Shawn Barton, along with his teammates and the Revs' players and coaches, knocked down some pins last Wednesday at the fifth annual "Bowl for a Goal" event to support Special Olympics Massachusetts.

The night was more than just bowling. The evening was filled with entertainment, trivia, photos and autographs. All profits from the event, including ticket sales, a silent auction and a raffle, benefited Special Olympics Massachusetts.

In the five years of the event the Revs has raised over $300,000 through "Bowl for a Goal." The team said its relationship with Special Olympics extends well beyond the annual fundraising event. The two organizations spent the summer putting on events aimed to promote an environment of inclusiveness and friendly competition through the power of sports.

One of those events was the The Special Olympics Unified Clinic, which Barton also participated in. During the clinics, Barton and the rest of his teammates took part in a training session and photo shoot with players on the Revs. Barton's photo shoot was with goalkeeper Cody Cropper.
