STOUGHTON, MA — Central Street is closed because of a crash and a water main break on Central Street near Mill Street. Police said National Grid was not able to respond right away because of the massive power outages in the area. At the height of Friday's intense wind gusts, 98 percent of Stoughton had lost power; that's 12,561 customers.

National Grid couldn't provide an estimate on when it can respond. Police have asked residents to take the road closures seriously as crews work to remove wires and utilty poles off the roads.

"We are finding that people are treating our road closures as suggestions," police said on Facebook. "They are not. There are wires across the road and a telephone pole still sits on top of a car. Our Department of Public Works is working as quickly and efficiently as they can to repair the water main break."
