WESTON, MA — The future of the Weston Observatory's educational programs is unclear as funding for the educational outreach portion of the facility runs low. The facility will have to raise around $50,000 to $60,00 to keep the programs running, according to the MetroWest Daily News.

Tours of the observatory, internships for high school and college students and annual geological field trips are all in jeopardy. The Weston Observatory is a geophysical research and science education center of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Boston College and has been recording earthquakes since 1931.

The MetroWest Daily News also reported the observatory said in a statement, that more money would allow them to “avoid the unfortunate possibility of losing some of our crucial team members.”
