Weston Residents Flock To Town Greene For Peaceful March

The march was organized by two high school students and brought hundreds of residents out in solidarity against racism and police brutality.

WESTON, MA — Weston residents came together on Wednesday to march in solidarity against racism and police brutality. The march was organized by two high school students and brought hundreds of residents out, alongside police.

The march comes in the wake of the death of George Floyd int he custody of Minneapolis police. Floyd was the Minneapolis man whose death was caught on video, as a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck. The viral video has sparked protests and a call for change and an end to police brutality throughout the country.

Students and residents were joined by town leaders and police officers in a march through the town green. The town published photos with a statement about the march on its Facebook page.

"Many thanks to every person who came to the Town Green this morning and to everyone who marched peacefully in support and acknowledgment of the painful truth in our country," the statement reads.

Residents marched with signs that read "Black Lives Matter," and "White Silence = Violence." One resident was photographed with a sign that read "400 years of racism in America: the other pandemic, Veteran of the Civil Rights movement."

Last week, the Weston Police Department issued a statement condemning the actions of the Minneapolis police officers involved with Floyd's death. The statement reassured residents that the Weston Police Department valued "the life, dignity and civil rights of all people."
