Pro-Trump, Pro-Police Rally Planned In Wilmington

WILMINGTON, MA — A pro-police and pro-Trump rally has been planned in Wilmington for Sunday afternoon. Supporters of President Donald Trump and law enforcement plan to gather on the Town Common at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The rally, named "Back the blue and Trump too," has 86 people listed as going and over 300 interested as of Tuesday afteroon, on Facebook.

The rally will feature appearances by local Republican officials and candidates, including the state party chairman James Lyons, senate candidate Kevin O'Connor, and state representative candidate Alec DiFruscia. Journalist and media consultant Kelli O'Hara will emcee.

"The time has come to take a stand," the event description reads. "Come out and show your support for our President and our brave law enforcement both local and across the country. Show them they are not alone."

Organizers asked residents to follow Gov. Charlie Baker's coronavirus safety orders, including social distancing and face masks.

According to the event description, the event is being planned with the town Republican committee.

The Wilmington Police Patrol Officers Union commented Saturday on the planned rally, writng, "This Union does not and will never request or require anyone to compromise their own beliefs in order to show us support."

"There are many residents of this town who share those same beliefs and will wish to attend," the union wrote. "There are many who support our police but do not support President Trump and will chose not to participate."
