This gradual reopening includes limited public access to some buildings, with restrictions, and following the 10/10/10 guidelines.

Members of the public who enter city buildings are expected to wear masks, and a mask will be provided if you do not have one. Employees must wear masks when not at their private/individual workspaces.

During the past 8 weeks, the city has operated a virtual City Hall, continuing to provide most city services online. We have continued to process permits, hold city council and committee meetings, pass a budget, respond to city services requests, fill potholes, pick up trash and provide other essential services.

Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, the city already had many services available online, and we have added more to help our residents during the Stay-At-Home order.

To make this gradual reopening safer, we have installed plexiglass barriers at some customer service counters and will expand the use of visitor logs. Signs on elevators indicate where to stand inside the elevator, and the limit on passengers, in order to maintain social distancing.

More details on how we've adjusted our operations during this pandemic can be found at the KCMO.gov Coronavirus website.

Starting Monday, the public will be able to access some city services in person:

  • Limited public access for permits & plans at City Hall (5th and 15th floors)
  • We are still hiring for a variety of jobs. Applicants are encouraged to view job openings and apply for positions at kcmo.gov/jobs. Talent Acquisition Division (24th floor of City Hall) will provide limited assistance to walk-in applicants.
  • KC Water’s Household Hazardous facility reopens at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15, with restrictions in place to protect customers and employees.
  • KCPD resumes normal parking enforcement, starting today.
  • Kansas City Zoo will reopen to the public this Saturday, May 16, but with some changes.

We will continue to offer most city services online or on the phone.
