CONCORD, NH — Concord firefighters, including the boat rescue team, assisted with a water rescue incident on Library Pond on the campus of St. Paul's School in Concord Friday. Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters and EMTs were sent to the school for a report of an ATV submerged in the pond after falling through the thin ice. The vehicle was later identified as a Kubota side by side all-terrain vehicle.

Before arriving, firefighters learned that the driver and a passenger in the vehicle had made it off the ice.

The teams set up a command area just off Rectory Road near the chapel and spoke with security at the school about the incident. They also examined the individuals to make sure they were OK. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services were also alerted to the situation due to potential fuel spilling into Library Pond.

Thin Ice Around NH

Despite the freezing temperatures of the last couple of days, the warming earlier in the month has melted a lot of pond and lake ice around the state. The New Hampshire Fish & Game Department issued an alert Thursday warning outdoor enthusiasts of potential thin ice around the state due to the season's fluctuating temps.

"Caution is in order for those going out onto any ice, especially following this week’s record-setting warmth," said Fish and Game Col. Kevin Jordan. "With erratic temperatures, some areas of ice may look safe, but may not be. We are urging people to check the ice thickness before going out onto any frozen waterbody."
