CONCORD, NH — During the weekend, Granite Staters will be enjoying pretty nice early August weather — but that could change quickly by early next week.

The National Weather Service posted updates warning residents along the Atlantic to prepare for Hurricane Isaias after it hits southern Florida first thing Saturday.

The storm, which is currently in the Caribbean and officially became a hurricane Friday, is posting 75 mph winds. It is expected to turn northeast by Sunday and travel up the coast arriving in New England Tuesday morning.

Winds are expected to drop but rainfall for southern New Hampshire could be as much as 4 inches by the end of the day Wednesday.

These impacts, of course, at this stage, are potential.

Red Cross Needs Volunteers

The American Red Cross is asking for volunteers to help others, especially during the upcoming hurricane season, when and if disaster strikes.

Hurricane season runs from June to November. Volunteers are also needed during wildfires and other situations. The Northern New England Region of the American Red Cross is looking for additional and new volunteers to be ready for deployment during disasters.

"Emergencies don’t stop and neither does the work of the Red Cross," James Segerson, regional disaster officer for the Northern New England Region of the Red Cross, said. We’re working to make sure we can provide critical help in times of disaster. Train now to be a Red Cross volunteer and answer the call to help people in urgent need. You can make real difference."

Forecasters predicted between 13 to 19 storms including six to 10 hurricanes for 2020.
