NH Police Targeting Drunk, High Drivers Through Holidays

New Hampshire police agencies will deploy extra patrols as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire police agencies are deploying extra patrols through the holidays targeting drunk and high drivers. The Granite State is participating in the federal "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which runs through Dec. 31.

"We understand that during the holidays, people are running around, busily checking off items on their to-do list and attending parties," Captain William Haynes, commander of the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety. "We need our community members to slow down and remember: It’s up to them to make the smart decision to drive sober ... Drunk driving is a huge problem in our country, and, unfortunately, we’re seeing a rise in marijuana use and drugged driving, too."

Last year, 10,874 people were killed in impaired-driving crashes across the country, according to federal statistics.
