Suspect In Bow Theft Case Quickly Arrested In Concord's West End

A man is accused of stealing a car at the Hampton Inn, dumping it in the North End, attempting to rob another driver before being arrested.

CONCORD, NH — Concord police were able to make a quick arrest Thursday after a stolen car incident in Bow turned into an unarmed robbery case in the North End and, ultimately, an arrest in the West End.

Around 2:30 p.m., Concord police dispatch informed officers in the field that a 2011 black Mazda sedan with Utah plates had been stolen minutes before from the Hampton Inn in Bow, between the city line with Concord and Interstate 89. Witnesses told police in Bow the vehicle headed south — so dispatch presumed it may have gone on either direction of I-89 or Logging Hill Road in Bow but not toward South Street in Concord.

Both Bow and Concord police were able to use digital surveillance to track the car down in the North End of the city, in the area of Wyman and Franklin streets, at just before 3 p.m. and officers headed to the area.

While heading to the car, which was found a short time later near Gary Dillon Field on Wyman Street, officers were diverted to the intersection of Tremont and Crosby streets for an unarmed robbery report.

A victim there accused of man of attempting to grab car keys from a driver after the driver refused to give the man a ride, according to dispatch. Police searched the area and setup a perimeter around the neighborhood, attempting to find the suspect as witnesses helped police — including one who had a photo of the suspect.

"It sounds like that vehicle in Grappone Park might be related to the same incident," one officer said.

After dispatch gave a description of the suspect in the unarmed robbery incident, Bow police responded that it sounded like the same suspect in their stolen car case and they headed to Dillon Field, too.

Another witness told police the suspect was seen running up Beacon Street toward White Park and police continued their search.

One of the clothing items officers were looking for were bright red sneakers the suspect was wearing and around 3:45 p.m., he was spotted in the area of Franklin Street and Ridge Road. Not long after, several officers were able to take the suspect into custody between Franklin and Forest streets.

Officers spent the next hour or so tracing back the presumed steps of the suspect looking for potential evidence including clothing, according to scanner chatter. A hat the suspect was wearing at the time but left behind was found on Tremont Street.

Concord NH Patch is not releasing the name of the suspect but will update this report or issue another report when he has been formally charged. The information has been requested from both Concord and Bow police.
