Watch: NHTI's Bucket Loader Is Full Of Food For Concord Kids

Students from the Child & Family Development Center, as well as staff and faculty, donate food for the Friends of Forgotten Children.

CONCORD, NH — NHTI, Concord's community college, was buzzing with little helpers Tuesday, filling up the school's bucket loader with food for children in need around the capital region. The students, pre-kindergarten and kindergarteners who attend classes at the Child & Family Development Center on the campus, spent the morning filling up the loader. The food was collected during the previous two weeks, donated by students and staffers at NHTI.

According to Tracy Phillips, a teacher at the center, the donations will go to the Friends of Forgotten Children's Backpack Program. The goal for the center was to collect enough food to fill the loader's bucket.

It was also a good opportunity for the children to learn that being generous was important because sometimes, there are others who might be in need.

The Backpack Program is a partnership between the Friends and the Merrimack Valley School District to ensure that students from low-income families have meals and snacks for the weekend when they aren't in school. The program is in its second year, according to the Friends' website, and around 100 students are assisted via the donations.
