NEWARK, NJ — Newark's 2020 school board election results have been certified and three candidates have emerged victorious: Josephine Garcia, Hasani Council and Flohisha Johnson.

Newark's board of education election was held via mail this year due to the coronavirus crisis. Ballots needed to be postmarked by May 12. There were no in-person polling places.

On May 18, Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin confirmed that the results posted on the county website have been certified.

  • Sheila Montague - 1,981 (9.34%)
  • Write In - 314 (1.48%)
