Plane Evacuated At Newark Airport After Fuel Leak: Officials

A United Airlines flight to Mexico City was evacuated at Newark Airport on Friday morning, authorities say.

NEWARK, NJ —A plane was evacuated at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday morning after a fuel leak, authorities said.

United Airlines Flight 2251 – which was scheduled to depart for Mexico City – experienced a “minor fuel leak” around 10:20 a.m., according to the Port Authority of NY/NJ.

All passengers and crew members safely deplaned and were transported back to the terminal. There were no injuries, officials said.

Emergency personnel immediately responded and cleanup is underway, a Port Authority spokesperson said at 11:30 a.m.

There was no operational impact due to the incident, the spokesperson said.
