Car Crash Causes Gas Leak, Evacuation In New Providence

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A car crashed into the back of a building in New Providence on Friday causing a gas leak and an evacuation, authorities report.

On April 19 at 12:17 p.m. New Providence Police Department and the New Providence Fire Department responded to 1260 Springfield Ave. where a motor vehicle had struck and damaged a gas pipe behind one of the buildings, Lt. Stephen Drown said.

The parking lot was shut down and nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution, Drown said.

No injuries were reported and PSE&G responded for the leak. The Berkeley Heights and Chatham Township Fire Departments also responded to help.
