VERONA, NJ — Verona police continue to investigate a “suspicious” incident involving a man in a truck who offered a 16-year-old teen a ride last weekend, authorities said Monday.

According to Verona Police Chief Christopher Kiernan, the incident – which took place around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday – isn’t being considered an attempted luring.

The teen pedestrian told officers that she was walking on Elmwood Road when a white delivery truck passed her three times. On the third pass, the driver allegedly called out to her and offered the teen a ride, stating that it wasn’t safe for her to be walking alone, police said.
