Albany, NY – There is a high probability of heavy rains for the Capital Region beginning Tuesday, August 4th. Due to Tropical Storm Isaias, Albany could experience 2-4 or more inches of rainfall within 24 hours. It is recommended to residents who have experienced street or basement flooding in the past to please prepare by: storing off-season and other bulk belongings in waterproof bins; keeping belongings stored on shelving off the floor in basements; removing memorabilia and valuables from locations that can be damaged by water.

Albany Water Department crews are currently working to clear catch basins in flood prone areas to help mitigate localized street flooding. Residents should also ensure their rain gutters are clear and downspouts directed away from foundations.

Please report any flooding or sewer backups to our Dispatch at 518-434-5322 and follow the local weather forecast from the National Weather Service.

Extreme rain events during the summer can increase chances of localized flooding and sewage backups into your home. Help prevent sewage backups before they happen by installing a backwater valve. Learn how to apply for a $2,000 backwater valve reimbursement.
