FOREST HILLS, QUEENS — School ranking site Niche.com released its updated list of the best private schools in the state of New York, and only two Queens schools made the grade.

The Kew-Forest School on the border of Forest Hills and Kew Gardens was ranked the 39th-best private school in New York City and number 54 in the state, according to the Niche.com ranking.

The only other Queens private school to make the list was the Garden School in Jackson Heights.

Topping the list in both the city and the state was Manhattan's Trinity School.

The rankings are "based on rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents," according to Niche. Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings, and more.

Niche both pulls data from entities such as the U.S. Department of Education, and colleges and universities and also relies on users to self-report information such as test scores.

Niche's full methodology is described here. The site gives the most weight to SAT and ACT scores of students, the rank of colleges that students matriculate to and the percentage of students at each school who go on to four-year colleges.
